titleOfInvention Potentiated antimicrobial compositions
abstract 1405246 Potentiated antibacterial medicines WELLCOME FOUNDATION LTD 4 Aug 1972 [5 Aug 1971 1 Aug 1972] 36774/71 and 35817/72 Heading A5B Antibacterial compositions comprise a competitor of p-aminobenzoic acid or an inhibitor of dihydrofolate reductase, or both, together with a potentiator which is itself a pteridine antagonist (as defined in the specification) and which inhibits the enzyme hydroxymethyldihydropteridine pyrophosphokinase and has a sufficiently low toxicity to a mammalion or arian host. Specified potentiatas are compounds of the formula: wherein R is -alkyl, optionally substituted by a hydroxy group, a halogen atom or by a phenoxy group itself optionally substituted by one or more alkoxy, amino, alkyl or hydroxy groups or halogen atoms and R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are the same or different and is each alkyl or they form: together a C 4-6 spirocycloalkyl ring system. Specified competitor/inhibitor compounds are various sulphonamides, pyrimethamine, trimethoprim, diaveridine and various derivatives of 2, 4-diamino pyrimidine. The compositions may be put up into conventional forms for oral, parenteral and rectal administration.n[GB1405246A]
