titleOfInvention Antibiotic myc 8003; fodder additive.
abstract 1325200 The antibiotic MYC 8003 KONINKLIJKE NEDERLANDSCHE GIST-EN SPIRITUS - FABRIEK NV 13 Aug 1971 [14 Aug 1970] 39367/70 Heading C2A An antibiotic designated MYC 8003 is a solid yellow, salt forming weak acid containing the elements C, H, O and N, and has an optical rotation [α]<SP>22</SP> D of - 60 degrees (1% methanolic solution), is poorly soluble in carbon tetrachloride and benzene, soluble in chloroform, methyl isobutyl ketone, butyl acetate, ethyl acetate, methanol and alkaline solutions, gives a slightly positive reaction in the aromate test, forms a red colour with concentrated sulphuric acid, a dark brown colour in the Pauly reaction, a dark red colour and turbidity with ferric chloride, and a precipitate with bromine water, gives a gas production at 135‹ C. and further gas production at 152‹ C. and decomposes at 164‹ to 174‹ C., has ultraviolet maxima at 233, 276, 286 and 327 nm. and infra-red absorption maxima at 810, 860, 940, 980, 1090, 1215, 1355, 1455, 1540, 1650, 2930, 2970 and 3400 cm.<SP>-1</SP> and salts thereof. A process for the production of this antibiotic comprises aerobic cultivation of Streptomyces ramocissimus (C.B.S. 190.69) or antibiotic MYC 8003 producing mutants thereof, in an aqueous nutrient medium containing assimilable sources of carbon, nitrogen and separating the antibiotic formed during the cultivation. A method of accelerating the growth of a domestic animal comprises feeding to the animal a feedstuff containing a growthpromoting amount of the antibiotic MYC 8003 or a salt thereof.n[GB1325200A]
