abstract 1361816 Plant growth regulation using Pyrazine derivatives ELI LILLY & CO 17 Dec 1971 [17 Dec 1970] 58727/71 Heading C1B [Also in Division C2] A method of inhibiting the longitudinal cell growth of plants comprises treating the plants with from 0À1 pound/acre to 10 pounds/acre of a compound of the formula wherein X represents hydrogen, hydroxy, or cyano; m represents an integer from 0 to 3; R<SP>1</SP> represents C 3 -C 8 cycloalkyl optionally substituted with C 1 -C 3 alkyl, C 1 -C 3 alkoxy, or halo, phenyl optionally substituted with C 1 -C 6 alkyl, C 1 -C 6 alkoxy, C 1 -C 6 haloalkyl, halo, C 1 -C 3 alkylamino, C 2 -C 6 dialkylamino, C 1 -C 3 alkylthio, C 1 -C 3 alkylsulfonyl, C 1 -C 3 alkylsulfinyl, or C 2 -C 6 alkoxyalkyl; furyl, theinyl, pyridyl, naphthyl, or norbornyl; R 2 represents R 1 , C 2 -C 8 alkenyl, C 2 -C 8 alkynyl, or C 2 -C 10 alkyl optionally substituted with C 1 -C 3 alkoxy, halo, or C 3 -C 8 cycloalkyl; or R 1 and R 2 taken together with the carbon atom to which they are attached form cyclododecyl, fluorenyl, xanthenyl, thioxanthenyl, dibenzosuberyl, tetralonyl, isophoronyl, or C 3 -C 8 cycloalkene optionally substituted with C 1 -C 3 alkyl, phenyl, or hydroxy; or a non-phytotoxic acid addition salt of such a compound. The invention also comprises compositions containing a pyrazine as defined above and wherein X is hydroxy, together with a carrier and/or diluent.
