The fibre is produced from a compsn. of viscosity >1P contng. a solvent (pref. water); a metallic cpd. (I) pref a basic metallic salt e.g. chlorides, sulphates etc. of Al, Fe, Zr, Ti, Be, Cr, Mg, Th, U, Y. Ni, V, Mn, Mo, W, Co) more pref. those able to form a refractory oxide e.g. Al oxychloride; and an organic polymer (II) e.g. partly hydrolysed polyvinyl acetate, both soluble in the solvent; followed by solvent removal.Amount of (II) is 10wt.% of (I) pref. 0.1-8wt.% of (I) and is 0.1-10 wt.% (pref. 0.1-2 wt.%) of the compsn. The fibres form textiles for insulation, filters, or supports for catalysts for polymerisation, dehydration and alkylation reactions, and are dense, mechanically strong and have refractory propertiesn[FR2099253A5] |
