The compound is prepared by isomerizing 2-hydroxy-3-allylpropiophenone to 2-hydroxy- 3-propenylpropionphenone, oxidizing this with ozone in a reaction medium consisting of a mixture of formic and acetic acids to give 3- propionylsalicylic aldehyde which is subjected to alkaline fusion to give 3-propionylsalicylic acid. The acid may be converted to an ester of 3-methylflavone-8-carboxylic acid with an aminoalcohol by first esterifying the acid with a C 1-4 alkanol, reacting the product with sodium benzoate and benzoyl chloride at 180-190‹ C. to give a C 1-4 alkyl ester of 3-methylflavone-8- carboxylic acid and either transesterifying this ester with an aminoalcohol or hydrolysing the alkyl ester and esterifying the free acid with an aminoalcohol.n[GB1343118A] |
