abstract | 1275695 Spiro-[benzothiazoline-2,21-(11,3)- benzoxazines] FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 6 Oct 1970 [8 Oct 1969] 47483/70 Heading C2C [Also in Division D2] Novel spiro compounds of the formula in which R 1 is C 1-4 alkyl and R 2 and R 3 are each hydrogen, halogen, nitro, C 1-4 alkoxy, C 1-4 alkoxy-carbonyl or formyl groups, are obtained by condensing a 3-R 1 -2-aminobenzothiazolium halide or p-toluenesulphonate with a salicylaldehyde of the formula by refluxing the reactants in ethanol in the presence of triethylamine. Examples describe the preparation of the 3-methyl, 3-methyl-6<SP>1</SP>- nitro-, 3-methyl-61-nitro-81-formyl-, 3-methyl- 6<SP>1</SP>,8<SP>1</SP>-dibromo- and 3-methyl-6<SP>1</SP>-nitro-8<SP>1</SP>-methoxy - spiro - [benzothiazoline - 2,21 - 2<SP>1</SP>H - (1,3)- benzoxazines]. The spiro compounds develop colour on contact with an acid and are used in pressure sensitive copying papers (see Division D2).n[GB1275695A] |
