titleOfInvention Cores for moulding and methods of producing and using the same
abstract 1337845 Destructible cores LIBBEY-OWENS-FORD CO 19 April 1971 [24 Feb 1970] 24323/71 Heading B3F [Also in Division B5] Desctructible cores for use in the die casting of metals, are made from particulate material having a skin of a hardened metal salt. The core is made either by forming an undersized core body from particulate material and a binder and dipping it into a heated pot of a molten metal salt (see Fig. 2, not reproduced), or mixing the particulate material with a molten metal salt and casting the core in a hinged mould (see Figs. 4, 5, not reproduced). The core may be removed from a moulding by dissolution with weak acid or water. The particulate material comprises sand, foundry aggregates, glass or metal beads, shot or pellets. The metal salts comprise nitrates, nitrites, chlorides, sulphates, carbonates, eutectic metal salt mixtures, or mixtures of these; the metals are sodium, potassium or lithium. Small quantities of carbonate or bicarbonate metal salts may be added to aid destruction of the core with acid.n[GB1337845A]
