abstract | 1298354 Tobacco substitutes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 17 April 1970 [1 May 1969] 22270/69 Heading A2C [Also in Division C3] A smoking mixture comprises, as smokeproducing material, a solid condensate produced by acid or base catalysed condensation of a compound of the formula: R<SP>1</SP>COCH 2 CH 2 COR<SP>2</SP> (optionally produced in situ from a precursor thereof) wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom, or an alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or formyl group, the condensate being fabricated with the aid of a film-forming agent into a form from which a tobacco simulating material can be produced. In the examples condensates of succinaldehyde, acetonyl acetone, HCOCH 2 CH 2 COCOH, HCOCH 2 CH 2 COCH 2 OH and HCOC OCH 2 CH 2 COCH 2 OH are prepared and are mixed with sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, water, glycerol, potassium citrate, citric acid, ammonium sulphate, calcium carbonate and calcium citrate, and the resulting slurries are cast into films which can be cut into strips and shredded. Conventional additives such as flavourants and inert fillers may be included in the mixture.n[GB1298354A] |
