titleOfInvention Disinfectant composition
abstract 1291551 Disinfectant compositions WEST LABORATORIES Inc 2 Jan 1970 [3 Jan 1969] 190/70 Heading A5E Compositions having a disinfectant and antimicrobial action and suitable for further dilution include (a) from 1 to 10% by weight of a phenol in which at least two of the 2-, 4- and 6-positions are substituted by halogen atoms or by nitro, phenyl, halophenyl, benzyl, halobenzyl or halohydroxybenzyl groups, not more than one of the 2-, 4- and 6-positions is substituted by C 1-6 alkyl or C 3-6 cycloalkyl, and not more than one of the 3- and 5-positions s substituted by a halogen atom or a methyl group; (b) from 2.5 to 35% by weight, and from 1 to 10 times the weight of the phenol (a), of an ionic surface active agent; (c) from 0.25 to 5% by weight, and not exceeding the weight of the phenol (a) of iodine; (d) from 5 to 40% by weight of hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid or an acid sulphate such as sodium acid sulphate; and (e) one or more solid or liquid carriers or diluents. The iodine may be added in the form of an I 2 /HI solution and the surface active agent (which may be anionic, cationic or ampholytic) is preferably a C 2-20 alkylbenzene sulphonate. The phenol is preferably 2, 4, 6-trichlorophenol, 2, 4-dichlorophenol, 4-chloro-2-cyclopentylphenol or 2-benzyl-4-chlorophenol. The carrier or diluent may be water and/or an alcohol, e.g. methanol, ethanol or propanol, in an amount of not more than 25% by weight, the proportion of water preferably exceeding the proportion of alcohol; or a water-soluble solid such as sodium sulphate, sodium chloride, urea or sugar and optionally a water-insoluble solid abrasive e.g. diatomaceous earth, bentonite or powdered sliica.n[GB1291551A]
