titleOfInvention Treatment of glass containers
abstract 1,270,523. Coating glass during manufacture. UNITED GLASS Ltd. 11 June, 1969 [19 June, 1968], No. 29244/68. Headings C1A and C1M. Glass containers are treated by subjecting them to the action of a tin-containing treating agent, e.g. SnCl 4 , and annealing them so as to form a film containing tin oxide on the surface of the glass, wherein said locating agent also incorporates a compound of Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni or Zr. The treatment is preferably effected immediately after formation while the glass is still hot by passing the containers through an atmosphere mist or spray of the treating agent. The metal compound added may be an acetyl acetonate, halide or organic ether and is preferably present in the treating agent in amounts of up to 10%, expressed as the weight of the element to the weight of tin. The coating greatly reduces the formation of rust stains and improves abrasion resistance.n[GB1270523A]
