1,259,673. Substituted cyclopentanones. AMERICAN HOME PRODUCTS CORP. 10 Jan., 1969 [1 Feb., 1968; 4 Oct., 1968], No. 1601/69. Heading C2C. Processes for the production of substituted cyclopentanones of the formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are C 1-20 alkyl radicals optionally mono substituted with carboxy, C 1-6 alkoxycarbonyl, hydroxy, tetrahydropyranyloxy or C 1-7 acyloxy and the symbol (#) indicates that the compounds can have these substituents in the α- or #-configuration, by reacting the corresponding 4-R<SP>2</SP>-5-R<SP>1</SP>-2,3-epoxycyclopentanones with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst, and by reacting 2,3-disubstituted levulinaldehydes of the formula with organic nitrogenous bases, and the novel compounds of the above Formula I in which R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are methyl, or R<SP>1</SP> is 6-carboxyhexyl or 6-(C 1-6 alkoxycarbonyl)hexyl and R<SP>2</SP> is 3- tetrahydropyran - 2<SP>1 </SP>- yloxyoctyl or 3 - (C 1-20 acyloxy)octyl. Pharmaceutical compositions, having hypotensive and smooth muscle stimulating activity, contain the above novel compounds of Formula I and pharmacologically acceptable carriers. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,186,505.n[GB1259673A] |
