titleOfInvention | Process for neutralizing waste mother lye containing acetic acid and for utilizing the acetic acid content in the form of potassium acetate |
abstract | To render acetic acid contg. waste mother liquors harmless, acetic acid is reclaimed as potassium-acetate. 1-5 mols. - of ethanol are added for each mol. of acetic acid and 8-10 wt.% of sulphonic acid based on mother-liquor wt.. This mixt. - is distilled at or below 78 deg.C.. Any methyl-acetate collected in the fraction is distilled off. - Ethanol is extracted from the residual base fraction of water so for every 4 mols. ethylacetate, a mixt. of 2-3:8-12:3-5 molar proportion, of water:ethanol:potassiumhydroxide is added and reacted at 50 deg.C. max. 45-66 wt.% of this mixt. is removed by distn. at atmospheric pressure. To the remainder 0.5-2.5 mols. of water are added for each mol. of potassium hydroxide used originally for hydrolysis. This mixt. is distilled off with a distn. temp. of 100 dec.C is obtd. The residue contains potassium-acetate, which is subjected to opt. purifcn. and/or concn.. |
