abstract Phenyl-hydrazines and hydrochloric-acid salts (I) are claimed, (where R = hydrogen or chlorine atom or methyl gp.; and R1: chlorine atom or methyl gp.) are prepd. by diazotising anilines (II) (where R and R1 are as before). Diazonium slats formed are reduced by alkali-sulphites and the redn. prods. react with alkali-boro-hydrides. The reaction mixt is treated with a conc. mineral acid followed by an alkali-hydroxide. End-prod. (I) is extracted by an organic solvent and isolated as the free base of its hydrochloride.
