abstract The present invention relates to compounds of general formula (I) and pharmaceutical compositions containing them. In the general formula (I), R 1 is C 1-6 alkylthiourophenyl, halo, nitro, (CH 2) 0-4 -NR 4 R 5, cyano, OR 4, CH = O, CF 3, CNR 4 R 5 = O and COOR 4; R2 is a hydrogen atom or a C 1-6 alkyl radical, in which case it may be substituted with the following tuber, phenyl, substituted phenyl, phenoxy, substituted phenoxy, NR 4 R 5, OR 6, carboxy, carboxy, H 2 N-C = NH-HN-, tertiary, methylthio, indium, imidazole, and phthalimide; R 3 is a hydrofluoric acid coat, O- (C 1-6 alkyl) -, or NHOH; R4 is a hydrogen atom, a C 1-6 alkyl or a C 1-6 alkanol; R 5 is a hydrogen atom or a C 1-6 alkyl radical; and R 6 is a hydrogen atom, C 1-6 alkyl, C 1-6 alkenyl, phenyl, or substituted phenylthio. The compounds of the present invention have matrix metalloproteinase enzyme inhibitory activity, for example, in the treatment of cough-induced diseases such as arthritis, atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and duodenal ulcer. ŕ
