titleOfInvention Process for the preparation of 2- (methylthio) -5- (trifluoromethyl) -1,3,4-thiadiazole using methyl dithiocarbazinate
abstract The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of 2- (methylthio) -5- (trifluoromethyl) -1,3,4-thiadiazole. The process according to the invention comprises reacting methyl dithiocarbazinate with trifluoroacetic acid in the absence of phosphorus trichloride for 2- (methylthio) -5- (trifluoromethyl) -1,3,4-thiadiazole and 2,5-bis (methyl thio) -1,3,4-thiadiazole, and then the 2,5-bis (methylthio) -1,3,4-thiadiazole is selectively removed by acidification of the reaction mixture followed by phase separation. Acidification is performed with concentrated inorganic acid. The process according to the invention makes it possible to carry out the reaction efficiently and effectively in the presence of water and thus to avoid the use of highly toxic powdered methyl dithiocarbazinate in powder form. ŕ
