titleOfInvention Process for producing cyklodextrin inclusion compexes of fatty acids and their alkalimetal salts, as well as aqueous solutions of the complexes, and microbiological culture medium containing the complexes
abstract Fatty acids are practically water-insol. soaps, i.e. alkali salts of fatty acids, do not form true solns. either, as they appear as aq. dispersions of micellar strucures. In consequence, these prods. are inaccessible to microorganisms despite being rich sources of carbon and energy. It is possible to render fatty acids and soaps both truly soluble and accessible, by formation of methylated-cyclodextrin complexes. These are solid, highly water sol. stable cpds. Unlike organic solvents, methylated cyclodextrins are not harmful to microorganisms, in any way. These fatty acid complexes may be used without any restriction for prepn. of solid, semi-solid or liq. culture media.
