abstract 3,17 beta-di:acetoxy -2,4 di:bromo-1,3,5-(10),6-oestra-tet raene is prepd. from 6-oxo-13,56-oxo-1,3,5(10)-oestra-triene -3,17 beta-di:ol by bromination with N-bromo-succinic-imide in an alpha,alpha',posn, next to the phenolic hydroxy gp. of ring A., and by the redn. of the 6-oxo to 6-hydroxy gp. with a metallic-hydride co,plex. - Olefinic bond is formed by dehydration with an acid of the 6-OH gp. - followed by acetylation of the 3 and 17 OH gps. - The prod. - is converted in a single step ot (2,4,6,7-(3)-oestra-diol, a suitable cpd. for the detn. of oestrogen-receptors.
