abstract | The present invention relates to a novel process for the commercial production of 5- (2-chlorobenzyl) 4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-thieno [3,2-c] pyridine and its pharmaceutically acceptable salts in 2- (2-thienyl) \ t by reacting with ethyl amine and formaldehyde followed by ring closure in acidic medium by reacting 4,5,6,7-tetrahydro [3,2-c] pyridine and 2-chlorobenzyl chloride in a phase transfer catalyst such that 4,5,6,7-Tetrahydro [3,2-c] pyridine is reacted in the formation reaction mixture with water-immiscible organic solvent, alkalization and addition of catalyst with? 2-chlorobenzyl chloride.
