abstract In the process of the present invention, a) propolis is extracted with C5-C7 alkene or C5-C7 cycloalkene or a mixture of alkanes to remove waxy materials, b) extraction with one or more C1-4alkane substituted with 1 to 4 halogens or with a C 2 -C 4 alkene or a C 1-4 alkyl ester of a C 1-4 alkanecarboxylic acid, or a mixture thereof, to obtain one or more fungicidal fractions, and finally c) if desired, the remaining propolis with C 1-4 alkanol, benzene or 1-4. Carboxyl-substituted benzene or sequentially extracted with benzene and alkylbenzene or a mixture of said solvents yields one or more bactericidal fractions and, if desired, the extract obtained in steps b) and c) is evaporated.
