The invention relates to a process for the preparation of pteridine compounds for use as medicaments. The aim of the invention is the provision of new compounds with stronger diuretic, anticuronic, antimagnesiumuretic, antihypertensive and cardioprotective action. According to the invention, pteridine compounds of the general formula I are prepared in which R 1 and R 2 independently of one another are hydrogen or an optionally branched alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms or a benzyl radical, or R 1 and R 2 together with the nitrogen and optionally with one or two further heteroatoms form a five- or six-membered heterocyclic ring system, or wherein R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen form a residue, and the physiologically tolerable acid addition salts derived therefrom.
