(+-)-5-oxo-20-desethyl-catharanthine derivs. of formula (Ia) and their annellation isomers of formula (Ib), produced in the same reaction are prepd. by the cycloaddition of a 2-halo-acrylic-acid-halide of formula (III) to an N-aralkoxy-carbonyl-1,2-dihydroxy-pyridine of formula (II) removing the protective gp. from the nitrogen of the resulting cpd. of formula (IV), acylating the resulting cpd. of formula (V) and subjecting the resulting cpd. of formula (VI) to photochemical ring-closure. |
