| abstract | In a liquid-chromatography differential-detection method based on measuring the physical changes produced by samples in an eluate, the physical change, expediently the change in refractive index, produced by the samples is measured with respect to a volume-displaced physical parameter, expediently the volume-displaced refractive index, of the eluate. The invention also relates to a system for carrying out said method with a sample cell which provides a signal proportional to the physical change and a reference cell. In the system, the outlet opening of the sample cell and the inlet opening of the reference cell are connected by connecting lines.
