abstract | The present invention relates to a novel process for the preparation of racemic or optically active 10-halo-vincamic acid esters of formula I wherein R and R2 are C1-C4 alkyl and X is halogen, such that a novel racemic or optically active compound is present. An eburnan of Formula VIII is an alkali metal tertiary alcohol in an alcoholic medium of formula R, OH. treated. The 10-halo-vincamic acid esters of the formula I have valuable therapeutic properties, namely, for the treatment of behavioral disorders caused by the damage and calcification of cerebral vessels in the old age, and also for the treatment of cognitive disorders resulting from cranial injuries. The novel process of the present invention has the advantage of producing a completely pure, pure 10-halo-apoincinnamic acid-free 10-halo-vincamic acid ester from a single step of synthesis from a single, readily prepared starting material. -1- |
