abstract The present invention relates to novel 9-halo-1-alkyl-1-alkyloxycarbonylethylhexahydro-indolokinolizinium alkoxides of formula IVa and acid addition salts of formula IVb, wherein R2, R3 and R4 are halogen, and ~ represents savanion. by the addition of a novel 9-halo-1-alkylhexahydroindoloquinoline of formula II wherein R2, X and A are as defined above, with an inorganic base followed by an acrylic acid ester of formula III wherein R3 is as described above, the oil obtained is treated with an alcohol of the formula R4-OH, wherein R4 is C1-C4 alkyl, and optionally, the novel 9-halo-1-alkyl of formula IVa. -alkyloxycarbonylethylhexahydro-indolokinolizinium alkoxide wherein R 2, R 3, R 4 and X are as defined above treating, if desired with an acid of formula H-A in which A is as defined for formula IVb. The importance of the novel compounds of formula IVa and their acid addition salts of formula IVb is that they are important intermediates for the use of valuable 10-halo-vincamic acid esters which are useful in the treatment of age-related behavioral disorders caused by cerebral vascular damage and calcification. 2 25 182433 -1-
