abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of novel D-6-n-propylergolines, which are pharmacologically active and are suitable for improving the symptoms of people suffering from Parkinson's disease and for lowering the level of prolactin in mammals. Examples of the new compounds are: D-6-n-propyl-8-beta-methoxycarbonergoline D-6-n-propyl-8alpha-methoxylcarbonergoline, D-6-n-propyl-8alpha-hydroxymethylergoline. According to the invention, a D-6-n-propyl-8alpha-mesyloxymethylergoline is reacted with the sodium salt of methylmercaptan or with sodium methylate, whereupon a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt of the reaction product is optionally isolated.
