abstract | A tryptamine compound of formula (I): <IMAGE> in which R = hydrogen, halogen, C1-6 alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or nitro; R<2> = hydrogen, C1-6 alkyl, C1-6 hydroxyalkyl, aryl or aralkyl; R<1> and R<3> are each the same component as that which is defined for R<2> or R<4>-CO-, where R<4> = C1-6 alkyl, aryl or aralkyl; R<1>, R<2> and R<3> may be identical to each other or be different from each other; the group <IMAGE> may be <IMAGE>, where n = 1-3, m = 2 or 3 and X = -CH2-, -O-, -N- or -S-, and, if R<2> = alkyl, R<3> = R<4>-CO-, R<4> = alkyl and if the sum of the number of carbon atoms of the alkyls represented by R<2> and R<4> = 4 to 8, the group <IMAGE> may be of formula <IMAGE> in which l = 4-8, is prepared by reacting a phenylhydrazine compound of formula (II): <IMAGE> with a 4-aminobutanal dialkyl acetal compound comprising at least one group of formula (III): <IMAGE> in a medium comprising at least one component chosen from water and hydrophilic organic solvents, the pH of the mixture being maintained at a value from 0.8 to 4. The tryptamine compounds have a pharmacological activity, especially a vasopressor activity. The process is simple and gives a high yield. |
