titleOfInvention Process for the mechanical digestion of green plant raw materials
abstract The invention concerns a process and apparatus for the opening- up of raw green vegetable matter. In the process fresh green vegetable matter is mechanically opened up by a combined and sequential breaking, crushing, disintegrating, rubbing and cutting, hitting and gentle pressing operation, having been passed through a mechanical opening-up apparatus once. The fibrous fraction of the thus obtained material is adjusted to a length of not less than 3 mm then the pulped vegetable matter is pressed at ambient temperature. A surface-active material may be added before starting the process. The apparatus comprises grinding chamber provided with a working surface, a rotor in the grinding chamber carrying oscillatably suspended breaking hammers, and a housing bounding the grinding chamber and provided with inlet and outlet ducts. The working surface is a liner having mutually parallel guiding channels diverging at an acute angle from either side of a vertical bisection line towards the right and left edge of the liner. The gap between the grinding surface of the liner and the envelope of the tips of the breaking hammers decreases from the inlet towards the outlet ducts. <IMAGE>
