abstract | 1459908 Tropane alkaloid intermediates SANWA KAGAKU KENKYUSHO CO Ltd 12 Aug 1974 [15 Oct 1973] 35510/74 Heading C2C A process for the preparation of an N-aeyldehydronortropinone of the formula wherein R is alkyl, aryl, alkoxy or hydrogen; and R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are alkyl, hydrogen or halogen, comprises reacting an N-acylpyrrole of the formula with an α,α<SP>1</SP>-halogenoketone of the formula wherein X is halogen, in the presence of a reducing agent, e.g. iron carbonyl or a zinccopper couple. The products may then be subjected to a stereo-selective reduction wherein either the double bond between the 6- and 7- positions is reduced, e.g. by catalytic hydrogenation, and/or the N-acyl and 3-oxo groups are reduced by, for example, LiAlH 4 , to give a tropine or dehydrotropine of the formula or a 2,4-dialkyl derivative thereof, via a compound of the formula |
