abstract BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to metal oxide briquettes for the metallothermic reduction of metal oxide to metal or alloy. The briquettes contain a metal oxide powder as well as a briquetting excipient in the form of ammonium metal oxide, calcium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide or aluminum hydroxide mixed with the metal oxide powder. The mixture of metal oxide powder and briquetting aid is briquetted and moisture is removed from the briquette produced.
