Cigarette and filter with lower flavor |
abstract |
The present invention relates to a cigarette (10) comprising a tobacco rod (12) and a multi-component filter (14). The filter comprises a single adsorbent bed (20) and an aroma-emitting filter portion (middle filter portion (17)) located downstream of the adsorbent bed (20). In a preferred embodiment, the adsorbent also carries an aroma and comprises a high surface area activated carbon (adsorbent carbon bed (20)). When mainstream smoke is drawn in through the top of the filter (14), it removes the gas phase components and releases aroma from the adsorbent carrier (15). Thereafter, added aroma material enters the mainstream smoke as it passes through the aroma-emitting filter section (middle filter section (17)). The purpose of the ventilation (perforations (24)) is to limit the amount of tobacco burned during a sniff and is located in a location downstream of the adsorbent carrier portion (15), thereby reducing the rate of mainstream smoke passing through the adsorbent carrier portion.
