titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of arylethanoldiamines |
abstract | The present invention relates to aryl ethanoldiamine derivatives of the formula IA and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein R 1 is aryl, phenoxymethyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaromatic, each optionally substituted with one or more substituents selected from halo, C 1-6 alkoxy, C 1-6 alkyl, nitro, cyano, trifluoromethyl, -NR 8 R 9 and -NHSO 2 R 8; R 2 is hydrogen or C 1-6 alkyl, R 3 is hydrogen or C 1-6 alkyl, X 1 and X 2 are each other; independently (a) hydrogen, (b) C 1-6 alkyl-CO, or (c) aryl-CO optionally substituted with halo or C 1-6 alkyl, provided that when one is (b) or (c) , then the other hydrogen atom (a); R 4 is (a) phenyl substituted with one or more substituents selected from C 1-6 alkyl, halogen, trifluoromethyl, C 1-6 alkoxy, -CO 2 H and -CO 2 R 8; or (b), phenoxymethyl or a 5- or 6-membered heteroaromatic group optionally substituted with one or more substituents selected from the group consisting of C 1-6 alkyl, halogen, trifluoromethyl, C 1-6 alkoxy, -CO 2 H, -CO 2 R 8, CN, NO2, hydroxymethyl and -CONHR8; or (c) a group of formula (W) wherein A is aryl or a 5- or 6-membered heteroaromatic group, R 5 is cyano, tetrazol-5-yl, -CO 2 H, or-CO 2 R 8; R 6 and R 7 are independently hydrogen, C 1-6 alkyl, -CO 2 H, -CO 2 R 8, cyano, tetrazol-5-yl, halogen, trifluoromethyl or C 1-6 alkoxy, or when R 6 and R 7 are adjacent to carbon atoms, then R 6 and R 7 together with the carbon atoms to which they are attached form a fused ring containing one or two nitrogen atoms, oxygen or sulfur atoms in the 5- or 6-membered case; each R 12 is independently C 1-6 alkyl, halogen, trifluoromethyl or C 1-6 alkoxy, and n is an integer from 0 to 4; and R8 and R9 are independently C1-C6alkyl. The compounds of the invention are useful as atypical beta-adrenoceptor agonists, including for the treatment of high blood sugar. HE |
