The present invention relates to bicyclic 1,3-diketones of the general formula: wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxycarbonyl, halogen, cyano, nitro, alkylthio, alkylsulphenyl. or alkylsulfonyl and Z is alkylene, oxygen, sulfur, N-R5, wherein R5 is alkyl and alkylcarbonyl for bicyclic 1,3-diketones wherein a) a (II) general reacting a bicyclic olefin of formula (III) in the presence of a base with haloform to convert it into a (III) generic compound with a ring member; (Xhalogen) b) hydrolyzing the resulting allyl halide of formula (III) to an allyl alcohol of formula (IV); c) oxidizing the allyl alcohol of formula IV to an unsaturated ketone of formula (V); d) reacting the resulting ketone V with a Y-labeled nucleophile with a negative charge stabilizing ion; e) and the resulting ketone of formula VI is hydrolyzed to the bicyclic 1,3-diketone of formula (I).
