abstract The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a more preferred process disodermolide and its analogues. The disodermolide analogues can be prepared by a three-step reaction sequence: In a first step, a ketone compound is bonded to an aldehyde compound to produce b-hydroxyketone; in the second step, the ketone compound obtained in the first step is reduced, for the preparation of 1,3-diol, and in the third step, the 1,3-diol compound obtained during the second step is lactonized and deprotected to produce the desired compound of formula V. The process used in the process is a novel compound produced by the process. HE
