titleOfInvention | Vaccine for the treatment of artherosclerosis |
abstract | The present invention relates to novel vaccine therapies and to the prophylactic treatment of atherosclerotic diseases. Accordingly, the present invention provides immunogens comprising apolipoproteins or fragments or derivatives thereof, which in their native form have at least one activity of total apolipoprotein, such as: (a) inhibiting apolipoprotein B receptor binding, and / or (b) lipoprotein lipase. An example of such an apolipoprotein is preferably apolipoprotein C-III (ApoCIII). The immunogen-containing vaccines of the invention are effective for the long-term prevention or reduction of atherosclerotic plaque formation, thereby reducing the possibility of atherosclerosis leading to coronary or cerebrovascular disease. which comprises administering an agent that results in a selective inhibition of apolipoprotein activity in man. The present invention relates to methods for treating or preventing chimeras by active vaccination or passive vaccination comprising administering to a patient an antibody that selectively binds to an apolipoprotein having at least one activity: (a) Apolipoprotein B and / or its receptor b) inhibition of lipoprotein lipase; and in this aspect of the invention, the antibody preferably binds to ApoCIII and abolishes ApoCIII activity. The invention further relates to the use of immunogens according to the invention in a medicament and to methods for their preparation. SHE |
