The present invention relates to a DNA vaccine against a pathogen that infects domestic animals, particularly cattle and pigs, comprising a plasmid containing a nucleotide sequence encoding an immunogen of a pathogen of the animal species in a manner that permits expression of the sequence in vivo and quaternary amino acids containing a lipid, wherein R1 is a saturated or unsaturated straight-chain C12-18 aliphatic group, R2 is another aliphatic group having 2 to 3 carbon atoms, and X is a hydroxyl or amino group, and this lipid is preferably DMRIE.
