The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of vinyl chloride comprising the steps of: preparing a reactor outlet stream in a production step by reacting a chlorine source of ethane, ethylene, oxygen and at least one chlorine, chlorine, or a chlorinated hydrocarbon in which said ethane is molar ratio of said ethylene to 0.02-50; said reactor is cooled and condensed to provide a raw product stream comprising the first portion of said hydrogen chloride and to provide a raw cooled hydrogen chloride stream comprising said second portion of said hydrogen chloride; separating said crude product stream with a vinyl chloride monomer product stream and a light component stream containing said first portion of hydrogenated chloride; and recirculating said stream containing said light components to a catalytic reaction with said ethane, said ethylene, said oxygen, and said chlorine source in said production step. The invention also relates to an apparatus for carrying out the above process, and to vinyl chloride produced by the process. HE |
