abstract BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a catalyst component suitable for the preparation of ethylene (co) polymers which is capable of producing high density polymers while avoiding the problems and high activity of fine particle formation. The catalyst component comprises a non-stereospecific solid catalyst component comprising Ti, Mg, and halogen, which is pre-polymerized with an α-olefin prepolymer in an amount of up to 100 with an α-olefin of the formula CH 2 = CH 1 g is the solid catalyst component per 1 g. The invention further relates to a process for the (co) polymerization of ethylene comprising the use of a catalyst component according to the invention with an Al-alkyl compound. SHE
