The present invention relates to a method of treating strain-specific K proteinase (K) for the diagnosis of repetitive octapeptide motifs of prion protein (PrP) for the diagnosis of subacute transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSSE) caused by a non-conventional transmissible agent (UTA) strain. The invention further relates to a method for the differential diagnosis of TSSEs caused by different UTA strains based on the above.
