The present invention relates to methods for inhibiting monocyte macrophage accumulation in plaque atherosclerotic lesions, inhibiting plaque rupture, inhibiting expression of matrix metalloproteinase, and treating unstable angina in a mammal, particularly a human, by administering an ACAT inhibitor therapeutically effective amount. In the processes of the invention, sulfomic acid derivatives which are preferably substituted with ACAT inhibitors or derivatives of tetrazide are used. SHE |
