The present invention provides nucleic acid sequences encoding novel Babesia canis-related proteins, and cDNA fragments, recombinant DNA molecules, and live recombinant carriers comprising these sequences. In addition, the invention provides host cells comprising nucleic acid sequences, cDNA fragments, recombinant DNA molecules, and live recombinant carriers. The invention further provides proteins encoded by these nucleic acid sequences, vaccines for combating Babesia canis infections comprising these proteins, or coding genetic material for these proteins, and methods for making the vaccines. In another embodiment, the invention relates to these Babesia canis-related proteins for use in a vaccine and to the use of Babesia canis-related proteins in the manufacture of a vaccine. Finally, the invention provides diagnostic means for detecting Babesia canis nucleic acid sequences, Babesia canis antigens, and antibodies to Babesia canis antigenic material. SHE |
