abstract | The novel precursor to the 5-cyanophthalide compound, which can be used as a precursor to the well-known antidepressant, i.e., citalopram or chemical name 1- [3- (dimethylamino) propyl-1- (4- Fluorophenyl) -1,3-dihydro-5-isobenzofurncarbonitrile, according to the present invention, is defined as i) the 5-carboxyphthalide of formula (III) is a compound of formula (IV) wherein R is hydrogen or 1-6 carbon atoms are formed, ii) then an amide of formula (IV) thus obtained is reacted with a dehydrating agent to give 5-cyanophthalide of formula (V). |
