| abstract |
The process of the present invention for the manufacture of a composite wood product comprises the steps of: forming a web of non-crosslinked binder treated wood particles having opposite and second sides, moisture content and excess air content; the quilt is compacted to a certain thickness; providing a first amount of heat to the first side of the quilt which is sufficient to convert at least a portion of the moisture content of the entire thickness of the quilt to a certain amount of internally generated steam; venting at least a portion of the internally generated steam through the second side of the web so as to purge excess air from the web; and delivering a second amount of heat to the web which is sufficient to cure the binder over the entire thickness.
