The present invention relates to the production of ergosterol and its intermediates by recombinant yeast and to the preparation of plasmids for the transformation of yeast. The method according to the invention is characterized by a) first constructing a plasmid into which the ergosterol metabolic pathway is inserted in several genetically modified forms, or b) first constructing a plasmid into which the ergosterol metabolic pathway is always inserted with the microorganism in a modified form, c) is transformed simultaneously or sequentially with a plasmid according to a) or with several plasmids according to b), d) with the microorganisms thus produced undergoing fermentation leading to an ergosterol, e) after successful fermentation, the ergosterolation intermediates are extracted and analyzed from the cells, and finally f) the ergosterol thus obtained and its intermediates are purified and isolated by column chromatography.
