Chimeric genes and methods for increasing the lysine content of plant seeds |
abstract |
The present invention relates to nucleic acids encoding all or part of the lysine diatomucrate reductase enzyme (LKR). Preferably, the invention relates to chimeric genes. A first chimeric gene from plant lysine glutarate reductase enzyme (LKR) and a second from lysine-insensitive dihydrodipicolinic acid synthetase (DHDPS) operably linked to a plant gluten transit sequence; each gene is operably linked to plant seed-specific regulatory sequences. The present invention further relates to chimeric gene-transplanted plants, their seeds, and methods for achieving increased lysine levels in the seeds of trans-transformed plants using chimeric genes. The brew according to the invention is suitable for increasing the lysine content of plant-based foods. ŕ |
