abstract | A compound, or enantiomers, stereoisomers, rotamers, tautomers, and racemates of said compound, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate of said compound, wherein said compound has the general structure shown in Formula I: wherein: R 1 is H, OR 8, NR 9 R 10 or CHR 9 R 10, wherein R 8, R 9 and R 10 may be the same or different, each of which is independently selected from the group consisting of H, alkyl-, alkenyl-, alkynyl-, aryl-, heteroalkyl-, cycloalkyl-, heterocyclyl-, arylalkyl-, and heteroarylalkyl; A and M may be the same or different, each of which is independently selected from R, OR, NHR, NRR ', SR, SO2R, and halogen; or A and M are attached together so that the residue: shown above, in Formula I, forms either three-, four-, six-, seven- or eight-membered cycloalkyl, four- to eight-membered heterocyclyl, six- to ten-membered aryl, or five - up to ten membered heteroaryl; E is C (H) or C (R); L is C (H), C (R), CH2C (R) or C (R) CH2; R, R ', R2, and R3 may be the same or different, each of which is independently selected from the group consisting of H , alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, heterocyclyl, aryl, arylalkyl, heteroaryl, and heteroarylalkyl, or alternatively R and R 'in NRR' are attached together so that NRR 'forms a four- to eight-membered heterocyclyl; or R 2 is selected from the group consisting of the following residues: a Y is selected from the following residues: wherein G is NH or O; and R15, R16, R17 and R18 may be the same or different, each of which is independently selected from the group consisting of H, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, heterocyclyl, aryl, and heteroaryl, or alternatively, (i) R15 and R16 is attached together to form a four- to eight-membered cyclic structure, and (ii) also, independently, R17 and R18 are attached together to form a three- to eight-membered cycloalkyl or heterocyclyl; wherein each of said alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, cycloalkyl or heterocyclyl may be unsubstituted or optionally independently substituted with one or more radicals selected from the group consisting of: hydroxy, alkoxy, aryloxy, thio, alkylthio, arylthio, amino, amido, alkylamino, arylamino, alkylsulfonyl, arylsulfonyl, sulfonamido, alkylsulfonamido, arylsulfonamido, alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, keto, carboxy, carbalkoxy, carboxamido, alkoxycarbonylamino, alkoxycarbonyloxy, alkylureido, alkylureido means an aliphatic hydrocarbon group which may be straight or branched and contains 1 to 20 carbon atoms in the chain; "alkenyl" means an aliphatic hydrocarbon group containing at least one carbon-carbon double bond and may be straight or branched and containing 2 to 15 carbon atoms in the chain; "alkynyl" means an aliphatic hydrocarbon group containing at least one carbon-carbon triple bond and may be straight or branched and contains 2 to 15 carbon atoms in the chain; "aryl" means an aromatic monocyclic or polycyclic ring system having 6 to 14 carbon atoms; "heteroaryl" means an aromatic monocyclic or polycyclic ring system having 5 to 14 ring atoms, in which |
