A process for preparing recombinant hCG from a sample, wherein the recombinant hCG has a specific bioactivity in the range of 23000 - 28000 IU / mg, the process comprising the steps of: a) eluting the sample through a silica gel chromatographic column, b) eluting the sample through ion exchange chromatographic column, c) eluting through a second ion exchange chromatographic column, d) eluting through a reverse-phase HPLC column, and e) subjecting the eluate to size exclusion chromatography.
