titleOfInvention Phosphorus-containing esters
abstract The invention comprises phosphorus-containing esters of the general formula <FORM:0999402/C2/1> wherein R and R1 which may be the same or different are C1-C4 alkyl radicals, R2 and R3 which may be the same or different are C1-C4 alkyl or alkoxy radicals, X is an oxygen atom or an imino (-NH-) group, Y is an oxygen or sulphur atom and n is zero or one. They may be obtained by reacting an alkyl sulphenic acid chloride R1SCI with an unsaturated ester or amide of the formula R-CO-X-(CH2)n-CH = CH2 to form a compound of the formula R.CO.X.(CH2)n.CHCI.CH2.SR1 and then reacting the latter with a salt of a phosphorus compound of the formula <FORM:0999402/C2/2> wherein Me is a salt-forming ion. Each stage of the reaction is preferably carried out at elevated temperature, e.g. from 50 DEG to 80 DEG C., and in the presence of an inert organic solvent, e.g. acetonitrile, methyl ethyl ketone or methyl butyl ketone. Examples are given and the products have pesticidal properties (see Division A5). CH3.CO.NH.CH2.CH(CI)CH2.S.C2H5 is obtained by reacting acetic acid-N-allylamide with C2H5SCI in CCI4; CH3COOCH(CI)CH2SC2H5 is obtained by reacting vinyl acetate with C2H5SCI in CCI4, and CH3COOCH2CH(CI)CH2SC2 H5 is obtained in a similar manner from allyl acetate and C2H5SCI. Specifications 922,781 and 940,537 are referred toALSO:A pesticidal composition comprises a solid or liquid diluent or carrier and a phosphorus compound of the formula <FORM:0999402/A5-A6/1> wherein R and R1 which may be the same or different are C1-C4 alkyl radicals, R2 and R3 which may be the same or different are C1-C4 alkyl or alkoxy radicals, X is an O atom or an imino (-NH-) group, Y is an oxygen or sulphur atom and n is zero or one (see Division C2). Specified carriers or diluents are talc, chalk, bentonite, clay, water (if necessary with an emulsifier), alcohols, ketones, dimethylformamide and liquid hydrocarbons. Known insecticides and/or fertilizers may also be present. Specifications 922,781 and 940,537 are referred to.
