titleOfInvention Detergent compositions
abstract Diamine oxides of formula <FORM:0998685/C2/1> where R.CO is the lauroyl radical or a mixture of C10-16-acyl radicals of which lauroyl constitutes the major proportion, e.g. coconut acyl radicals, and R1 and R2 are methyl and/or ethyl, are prepared by the oxidation of the corresponding diamines. Specification 943,353 is referred toALSO:A heavy duty detergent composition comprises, by weight (a) 2-40% of a diamine oxide of formula <FORM:0998685/C4-C5/1> where R.CO is the lauroyl radical or a mixture of C10- 16-acyl radicals of which lauroyl constitutes the major proportion, e.g. coconut acyl radicals, and R1 and R2 are methyl and/or ethyl, and (b) 4-95% of a water-soluble alkali metal polyphosphate; the weight ratio (a) to (b) being 0.25 : 1 to 0.5 : 1. When in the form of a granular composition (a) generally comprises 5-40%, and (b), which is preferably sodium tripolyphosphate, comprises 10-95%; when the composition is in liquid form, (a) normally comprises 2-25% and (b), which is then preferably potassium pyrophosphate, comprises 4-50%. If desired, part of (a) may be replaced by such other detergents as soap, sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate or the condensate of nonylphenol with 9 molar proportions of ethylene oxide. Potassium toluene sulphonate, sodium sulphate, sodium silicate (SiO2 :Na2O=1.6), sodium or potassium nitrilodi- or -triacetate, and salts of ethylenediamine tri- and tetra-acetic acids may be included, as well as other conventional additives. Specification 943,353 is referred to.
