titleOfInvention | Improved process for the manufacture of alpha-olefins and products produced thereby |
abstract | Alpha-olefins are obtained by oligomerization of olefins in the presence of an aluminium alkyl compound and a macromolecular compound containing hydroxyl groups. The catalyst may be triethyl or tripropyl aluminium together with polyvinyl alcohol or phenol-formaldehyde resin; a carrier such as charcoal or alumina may be used. Polymerization is effected at above 100 DEG C. and below 100 atm. In the examples ethylene is converted to C6-C50 products. The conversion of propylene and butylenes is also referred to.ALSO:A catalyst used in the oligomerization of olefins comprises an aluminium alkyl compound and a macromolecular compound containing hydroxyl groups. Specified components are triethyl and tripropyl aluminium and polyvinyl alcohol and phenol-formaldehyde resin; the catalyst may be supported on charcoal or alumina. |
