titleOfInvention | A process for the production of barium hydroxide |
abstract | Barium hydroxide is produced by passing a solution of barium sulphide through either a strongly acidic cation-exchange resin in the sodium or potassium form or a strongly basic anion-exchange resin in the hydroxyl form. The effluent is collected, in the case of the anion-exchange resin this is barium hydroxide and in the case of the cation exchange resin the effiuent is sodium sulphide. The exchange resin is then regenerated by passing sufficient sodium or potassium hydroxide solution through the resin in the reverse direction of flow. The effluent from the regenerating step in the case of the cation-exchange resin is barium hydroxide and in the case of the anion exchange resin is sodium sulphide. The barium sulphide solution, which is employed at a temperature of 50-70 DEG C., may comprise the aqueous extract of the clinker produced by the coke or like reduction of barytes. |
